Woodcliff Lake Golden Eagle Report?

IMG_2701(1)
Debbie Endresen sent me this e-mail a few days ago — sorry for not posting sooner:

Still not sure if it's a Golden, or juvenile Bald eagle. Saw 5 adult balds and 4 juveniles. All the "bird people" got some kind of alert notification of a Golden sighting.

People were showing up until sun went down. Going back after work today, amazing to watch them fly and play!

(Thanks, Debbie — who credits her brother-in-law Leroy Andresen for the reports and pix! Anyone else see the bird?)

More on telling the difference here.

  • Whereabouts in Woodcliff Lake?

I met Leroy on Church St. On 2/4/17. I saw an eagle land in this exact tree. I stayed for a while longer and saw it fly, it was a BE. A bit of white on it’s belly, long neck and very large bill.

There’s been no confirmation of Golden Eagle at Woodcliff Lake. For the last 5 days it’s just speculation. There have been reports of Golden Eagle, but nobody has a photo of the bird to distinguish it from Bald Eagles. As far as I know, nobody with knowledge of the species has been able to document it. This is the wrong habitat for a Golden Eagle.

  • Fabulous

  • Any updates on Golden Eagles here would be appreciated. Very rare bird for Bergen co esp in winter. Thanks.
