Some Butterflies Have Arrived!

IMG_0019-001
IMG_9988Stopped by the Celery Farm after lunch today and looked for butterflies.

Happy to report that they have begun to arrive.

Sightings included  a hyperactive Monarch (left) on Common Milkweed (its host plant), a Red Admiral, a Pearl Crescent or two (below), a couple of skippers,  fleeting looks at some sort of fritillary, plus the usual Cabbage Whites.

And a Hummingbird Clear-winged Moth (above), plus other cool insects.

Fred's Meadow seems to be the real hot spot, so we may spend some time there on the Butterfly Hunt on Saturday morning at 10:30 at Green Way.

(A big thank you to Deputy Warden Fred Weber for planting all these butterfly-friendly native plants.)

Let's hope they stick around!

Butterfly Hunt participants will receive a free butterfly ID pamphlet while supplies last.
