A New Facebook Campaign
I recently started a new Facebook page for Protect Our Wildlife and Pets, an ad hoc coalition formed to address…
While we were in Bayou Country, we just had to visit Avery Island, home of a huge Snowy Egret rookery and the Tabasco factory. The rookery is part of Jungles Gardens.
One of the highlights was up-close looks at this young Roseate Spoonbill. According to a local legend that I just made up, the Spoonbills get rosier as they eat more Tabasco sauce.
Other highlights were a young Little Blue that reminded me of a ballet dancer when he landed. migrating warblers, including an Ovenbird, and of course the rookery, which was totally devoid of birds off-season. Obligatory gator, too.
The incredible story of this rookery is here.
