Edith Wallace took this shot in the Celery Farm this summer, with the following explanation:
Cottony scale on grape actually showing scale insect.
Heard of cottony scale but never saw it until this July, and have seen it many different places including my garden. Usually the insect is not there when you see the white cottony exudate.
Deedee Burnside ID'd the insect: "Wooly Aphid, food of the Harvester butterfly, the only carniverous larva of Lepidoptera in our area!"
