My New Column: Smoke-phased Wild Turkey
My latest column for The Record is all about a Smoke-phased Eastern Wild Turkey that has been seen in Allendale and Wyckoff, plus a bit of a riff of other unusual birds, including an all-white Red-tail that has been seen in Piscataway for several months.
A big thanks to Ken Wiegand for photographing the bird (above) and telling me about it, to Wild Turkey expert Tony McBride, and to Steven Albert for sharing his photo of the all-white Red-tail (below).

Great article, really interesting. I remember when the Celery Farm was visited by the white catbird. I was away on vacation and reading all the posts about it. I drove home from Virginia and went directly to Greenway and into the area it had been spotted. I was so lucky to see it within minutes and get a few pictures. I believe that was the last day it was spotted there. I felt so fortunate to see something so rare.
