My Article about Pig Farmer/Presidential Candidate Henry Krajewski

Img499When I worked in the Meadowlands, I learned all about Henry Krajewski, the tavern owner and pig farmer who ran for president in 1952, 1956 and 1960 (and lost!).

Just in time for the current presidential campaign, New Jersey Monthly has published my article about the legendary Krajewski.

In case you hadn't guessed, the Secaucus resident, who ran on a variety of insane platforms, has become my political idol.

I have collected some of his memorabilia, pictured here.

As I mentioned in the article, Krajewski even had a polka named after him.Img503

You can listen to a polka band play “Hay, Krajewski! Hay! Hay!” at the 2014 Pulaski Day Parade on YouTube here.

The Bernie Witkowski and the Silver Bells version is here. Note the snorting pigs at the end.)

(Warning: You'll be humming it all day long…)

The link to my New Jersey Monthly article is here.

I grew up in Secaucus and it was a real agricultural community. Polish , Italian and German pig Farmers in fact I lived right next door to a child about my age who’s Dad was a Pig Farmer. He was an only child and we became good friends as I had two younger brothers and he was lonely missing that experience.Besides Pig Farmers there were four rendering plants which is also agricultural related. Plus Vegetable Farmers it was a good place to live and grow up in. Krajewski was locally Famous but not for Politics his Polka Band was excellent.
