My Column: State Line Hawk Watch
A view of State Line Lookout and the Hudson River beyond in Alpine. By Jim WrightSpecial to The Record |…
Eight days ago, on a walk in the woods in Highland, N.Y., I encountered this bare patch in the leaves. No other humans had used the path.
What created the bare patch? We had all sorts of answers — from turkey to deer to bear to mole to termites.
My best guess is that it was Wild Turkey — a turkey feather was found several yards away, and I did not see any hoof marks.
Thansk to all who answered, especially Janet Terchek, who posited the turkey theory (and conceded she was just guessing.)
