Horned Grebe at the Celery Farm
My first ever here. And the spring arrivals are arriving! The grebe was No. 186 on my Celery Farm life…
On Monday I asked:
Bob and Lisa Safier rescued this turtle crossing Fox Run Road last week. Can you I.D. it?
This was a toughie, and no one answered correctly. I had to ask Conserve Wildlife Foundation's Allegra Mitchell, a reptile expert, who says:
So great that your friends were able to help this turtle out!
It is a red-eared slider. It is likely that this is a female looking for some soft dirt with decent light exposure to lay eggs – turtles typically find roadsides to be adequate locations for nests.
If they understood what cars were though they might rethink their decision! (Thanks, Allegra!)
