Monday Morning Mystery 070416

_MG_4491In honor of our annual Celery Farm Butterfly Walk on Saturday, July 16, at 10 a.m., I thought I'd post a butterfly mystery.

I've seen these guys in the past week or so near the summit of High Mountain and in the Pequannock Watershed (Though not at the Celery Farm).

What is it?

I think it is a red spotted purple also. If so they lay eggs on willows. They like rotting fruit, feed on carrion, sap and animal droppings. They like nectar of butterfly bush, lantana and milkweeds. Thank you for sharing Jim1

  • Deedee Burnside

    Patriotic butterfly!

  • A red spotted purple.

  • Red, white and blue butterfly that flew in for 4th of July.My best guess,

  • Deedee Burnside

Red Spotted Purple sometimes called Red Spotted Admiral
