Here's another mystery from 8-year-old Elizabeth, who visited the Celery Farm recently and wondered:

Why are Crab Aples called Crab Apples?

  • Crab apples are wild apples. They are very sour and astringent.
    Branches of the tree on which the apples grow are supposed to resemble crab legs.
