Monday Morning Mystery 010818: Skull

IMG_6691Found this skull wrapped in leaves by the Celery Farm last week.

I wonder what kind of skull, and how it got wrapped in leaves.

  • Since the bottom jaw is missing and the front of the snout seems damaged, you would not see the classic incisors, so I am going to guess some kind of rodent. Anything from a vole to a squirrel.
Link to a photo of a damaged vole skull.

  • How big was the skull? Can’t tell from photos.

The molars are flat for grinding. Skull is elongated but too small for a deer.
Fawn ? Stashed for future eating?

  • Oof…at least it is not my skull, lol. Such bare bones. I would say canine also but hmmm. Wouldn’t the fangs be longer though? In the front that is? And actually the snout is not that long and thin like a fox. Maybe a groundhog? I wish there was a better picture from the top.

  • I going to say Deer ….A crow like to peck on bones maybe he wrapped it in leaves for later ???

  • Canine. Perhaps a fox

Fox?? Got wrapped in leaves by the wind?
