May 8 update: not for the very squeamish
When I checked in on Mrs. Ace early this morning, Mr. Ace had dropped off a nice little field mouse for the family meal.
When I returned from a field trip, it had vanished — either consumed or stashed under a pile of feathers.
Mom is still keeping her young under her wing, so it is impossible to say how many eggs have hatched.
Here is a photo from this morning. Mrs. Ace has not been nominated for a good Housekeeping Award, but she seems like a great mom so far.
