Lucky Horseshoe Found in the Celery Farm

IMG_9812Elena Tartaglia, the National Moth Week whiz who teaches at Bergen Community College, did some stream sampling with two of her students by the Brotherton Bridge on Friday.

Full post next week.  In the meantime, wanted to post one of the items they found in the stream — a horseshoe.

We placed it against a tree (above) so it would stand out against the lighter background. In horseshoe parlance, this is known as a leaner.

I called Marsh Warden Stiles Thomas about the horseshoe, and he pointed out that there once was a horse pasture not far away from there — a blast from the past.

I think a man named Kennedy had riding stables on Boroline Rd. when I was a kid. Am I right?
