Gaby the Gallinule Continues
Saw Gaby the uncommon Common Gallinule from the Pirie-Mayhood Tower again this morning.
You might see Gaby, if she hasn't disappeared into the reeds, by looking up the Big Ditch and studying the water and bushes. A spotting scope is a great idea.
You may get lucky and Gaby will paddle into open water (that's how Rochana Muenthongchin got the photo above, from yesterday) or you might see Gaby from the Boy Scout Platform (where Rochana took the photo below) but don't count it.
If you know how to tell the difference between male and female Common Gallinules, let me know.
Might have to change Gaby's name to Gary.
(She is called Gaby in honor of Gabrielle Schmitt, who does so much for Fyke and the Celery Farm. There is also a wonderful Gaby in the Meadowlands, where gallinules are a bit more common, but this gallinule is not named for her. Maybe next time.)
