Fell House Barn Sale Mystery

IMG-5360
The Fell House is getting all kinds of cool donations for Saturday's barn sale, including the above pottery mystery item.

The container part holds about 16 ounces, with a hole on the bottom and built-in saucer with pourer.

Anybody know what it is and what it is used for?

Sale is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  (Sorry, no early birds of the non-feathered variety!)

Hmm, I think I agree with Marianne, but actually the gravy boat was the first thing I thought of.

A gravy skimmer? The fat rises to the top and you pour off the broth below.

Probably 15th century Beer Bong. The pilgrims had someone open their mouth lean their head back and they poured beer into the top and it came out the hole into the saucer and poured it into the mouth of the recipient.

  • It is a Condensed Milk container/ server?
Condensed milk was almost solid, but did “weep” liquid. The hole on the bottom was so the liquid could escape into the underplate and then be discarded.
