Don Torino’s Latest: Rememorizing Bird Calls

Don Torino, a friend of this blog, wrote his latest column for wildnewjersey.tv on the arrival of spring and the need to re-memorize all those bird calls that some folks just know by heart.
Here's a sample:
Somewhere under a foot of snow, pot-hole filled roads, and my icy cold finger tips lies spring. And along with it means it is time for me to review, rather learn, my bird calls once again.
Yes, I confess, unlike many of my much more talented birding brothers and sisters who can recognize a little “chip” of a bird 100 feet over their heads, I need to relearn many of my bird calls each and every spring.
Just when I think I might have many of my Warbler calls down, it seems just on spite they decide to move on, I try not to take it too personally.
… For some reason when it comes to my less than super sensitive hearing abilities, many of these wonderful classic trilling musical songs seem to go in one ear and out the other come winter.
