Cuban Malachite Butterfly

DSCN9967-003Saw this guy in the Zapata Swamp on a bird count with the Caribbean Conservation Trust.  Malachite Butterfly.

  • It really reminds me of stained glass especially with the black surrounding so much of it. It almost looks as if it is posing! Were there any other interesting insects in that swamp? Hopefully you did not come back with too many bites! There must have been plenty of mosquitos and tarantulas. Also don’t they have the tiniest hummingbird in the world…bee hummingbird?
