Spring is here (at least for now)! I looked out my window on the Celery Farm this morning and not only saw my first Wood Duck of the year, but also my first female Wood Duck house-hunting.
She flew up to the box and looked in, then alighted on the roof and looked in. By the time I could grab my camera, of course, she was long gone — a gull had flushed her.
But she was just the beginning. With a spotting scope, I saw Common Merganser (left), Gadwall, Hooded Merg, (one) Ruddy Duck (above), Mallard and Ring-necked Duck. At any rate, that's at least seven species at the CF before 8 a.m.
