Horned Grebe at the Celery Farm
My first ever here. And the spring arrivals are arriving! The grebe was No. 186 on my Celery Farm life…
Spring is here (at least for now)! I looked out my window on the Celery Farm this morning and not only saw my first Wood Duck of the year, but also my first female Wood Duck house-hunting.
She flew up to the box and looked in, then alighted on the roof and looked in. By the time I could grab my camera, of course, she was long gone — a gull had flushed her.
But she was just the beginning. With a spotting scope, I saw Common Merganser (left), Gadwall, Hooded Merg, (one) Ruddy Duck (above), Mallard and Ring-necked Duck. At any rate, that's at least seven species at the CF before 8 a.m.
