Got a great view of a female belted kingfisher from, the Warden’s Watch yesterday.
She perched on the "Duck Enough" box for a few minutes, then went flying off — chattering all the w
hile.
She was soon joined by a male, and they went darting around Lake Appert together.
In years past, the kingfishers have frequently been seen in early spring at the Celery Farm, but they tend to fly off (to Ho-Ho-Kus, I am told) to breed.
They then return in early July.
Enjoy them while you can.
