Building a Stronger Bird Feeder

IMG_2105
Undaunted by his bear-bent feeder pole, Stiles Thomas has built a stronger one out of steel pipe. (Just hope a neighbor isn't missing some plumbing.)

Stiles still hopes to get a photo of the nocturnal feeder raider.

Take that, Max Bear!

  • I dare “it”. Strong like bull you are Stiles.

  • Stiles, you need to put a “slinky” on that pole, the squirrels climb up, reach the slinky and slide right down to the ground. There is a video of this idea on FB, it is quite funny! Go to

  • American ingenuity….did he cement the base in good and deep? Another suggestion I have is to actually fill those feeders up to the tippy top.

  • Pat Price

Having had a few bears of my own, I found out if it wasn’t anchored in cement it didn’t survive. Sis, get out a big aluminum pot with a long spoon to bang on! Protect Stiles!

  • Nice job Stiles!

  • Looks good. Should last through winter while bears are in den. Time will tell what happens from April to November. In last picture almost looks like a bear in background behind the pole watching construction.

  • Looks strong! What about squirrels?
Hope you get a picture of the bear!?
