I am pleased to announce that Allendale's Red-shouldered Hawks have two new young. They fledged earlier this summer.
These magnificent raptors have nested successfully in Allendale for more than two decades and ha
ve nested here as far back as anyone can remember.
If you live in Allendale, you've probably heard their loud calls around town. I saw at least three of them soaring near Crestwood Lake yesterday.
The Red-shoulders have also been seen flying (and heard) in the whereabouts of the Celery Farm.
They are considered endangered in New Jersey when nesting and a threatened species the rest of the year.
