When I was photographing Al and Alice the nesting Bald Eagles on Tuesday, Al flew by the nest and landed on a branch not far away, and I took a few photos. In the background in a few of the shots, I noticed a large clump of branches maybe 40 yards from the active nest.
Could this be an alternate nest?
From what I have read, alternate nests are not uncommon for Bald Eagles elsewhere… but maybe it's just one huge squirrel's nest.
