Incorporating the Celery Farm and Screech Owl Companion blogs
Yikes! More moms
It was a maternal evening last night — topped off by the discovery of a squirrel starting to nest in the screech owl box.
That means, of course, that we can follow the pregnancy and early squirrelhood through the rechristened squirrel-cam.
Mrs. Squirrel was busy bringing leaves into the nesting box last night, which I am thinking means that she is adding softer bedding to the floor of the box.
This morning, the construction continued (photos later).
But wait, there’s more. Patty and I saw a box turtle laying eggs next door on the front lawn, and we also saw a Momma Mallard swim by the point with seven little guys. Photos below.
Busy night, but not as busy as Mrs. Squirrel is going to be.

The box tortoise is gorgeous and brings back fond memories. I remember having several as summertime pets years ago when we were kids — then we released them. I know you can’t do that now — keep them as even temporary pets — but it was fun and we learned a lot about them. I always enjoyed speculating how old they were and if we’d find them again the following summer…

Vern,
The squirrels aren’t going to come close to the Ace show, but at least I can relax with this one.

I wonder if the sequal will be as good as the original? Life with the Aces will be hard to beat!
