Wren again
Had two Carolina wrens at the feeder on Christmas Day, a first but no real surprise.
When I saw the first one on the feeder last week, the marsh warden asked where the other one was, since they come in pairs.
I started checking and, sure enough, I saw one on the feeder and one in the distance.
Cool birds. Doubly blessed.

Great advice! Thanks. I’ll be scoping out the box this afternoon. I’d like to wire it directly to the computer, but Jeff says he needs a conversion box. I’m not sure what that means, but he’s the expert computer guy. Looks like the install will be delayed a little bit due to the absent technical thingy.
Thanks!

I am no expert on this, but here’s how I would go about it:
I would check the nesting box every afternoon from afar to see if you have a screech owl there. I find that if Ace hasn’t popped his head up by 4 o’clock, he’s not there.
If you’re fairly certain that there’s no owl present, plug in the camera into the TV set, run the cord out to the box, and put a ladder up to the box in the late afternoon. Climb the ladder and put the camera, pointed down, into the opening.
Have someone check the image on the TV monitor to see if an owl is present. If not, go ahead and install the camera. I will write this up as a separate post in the near future in case readers miss it.
My most important advice: Be careful. Take ladders very seriously. Make sure they are steady and that you can maintain your balance. You can really get hurt falling off a ladder. -
Nice wrens!
Just wanted to let you know that Santa brought me an owl cam. Any suggestions on how to make sure the owl’s AREN’T in the house so we can wire it would be welcomed.
Cheers.
