The rainbow refuge

Rainbow_2

Late yesterday afternoon, a light rain was falling in Allendale,  and I needed to chill for a few minutes.

So I grabbed my point-and-shoot digital camera and went out to the point, hoping to catch an egret, maybe, or a green-wing teal.

Instead, greeting me as a I surveyed the horizon, was a beautiful rainbow. In fact, when I looked more closely, there were two rainbows.

In the photo above, if you look closely, you should be able to see the second rainbow.

As I stood there, slightly awed by the whole thing, a couple I had never met before arrived at the stand.

I pointed out the double rainbow, and the couple replied: "We get them all the time in Britain. Very damp over there, you know."

They didn’t mean to rain on my rainbow. I guess everything is a matter of perspective.

If you’ve traveled to anywhere that has some wide open spaces, the Celery Farm is by comparison a mere vestpocket park.

But for my wife and me — and a lot of people we know — it will always be the pot of gold at rainbow’s end.

    Hi
Believe it or not I had a woolly bully on my deck yesterday morning and put him in my garden for safety. Then I read it on the blog. Amazing that it was here too!

  • That was lovely… and I agree, The Celery Farm is the pot of gold, at least for us north Jersey folks!!

  • Yes, we once saw a triple rainbow.

  • I, too, saw this double rainbow and was awed by it. I was on Route 17 South. It was good I was not driving, because I flipped! Both were full rainbows. The interior rainbow was the brightest I have ever seen, and the sky area between the rainbow and the earth was much lighter in color than the rest of the sky. The outer rainbow was more faint, but still very visible throughout the entire arc. Is there such a thing as a triple rainbow? I wonder. Carol Dickman

  • Funny, we were at the McFaul Center when a storm came for 10 minutes and then it got sunny again… We captured a rainbow as well, though not as good as yours.

  • How beautiful is that!! The sign of a wonderful promise (Gen.9:13-16).
–and thanks for a fantastic owl show!
