Each summer, my wife and I like to visit Springfield, Mass., and the nifty towns to its north.

A couple of summers ago, while sitting on the hotel's sun deck, we noticed Peregrine Falcons roaming the skies — likely looking for a pigeon to feast on.

A quick Internet search revealed that the Peregrines had nested there since 1989, and even had their own webcam during breeding season.

When we returned last week, we scanned the skies for Peregrines, with no luck.

Then,  just before dusk as we walked to dinner on our last night in Springfield, I looked down and saw the feather pictured above. I immediately thought: Peregrine.

We looked up to see a falcon directly overhead, no doubt just saying hello to his long-time admirers.
