Super Bowl parade in NYC
A rare non-nature post:
Yesterday, I covered my second news story in Lower Manhattan for The Record in less than five months, and the contrast could not have been starker.
The first story was the annual Sept. 11 memorial service at Ground Zero, Yesterday, it was the Giants’ triumphant parade up Broadway through the Canyon of Heroes.
Until the parade got under way,
you could hear the construction work at the World Trade Center site, and it was still eerie to be in that exact same area under such different conditions.
Lower Manhattan was packed with a lot of happy people yesterday, delighted by their team’s unexpected good fortune. As one fan explained, he was "exuberating."
This was the first ticker tape parade since the Yankees won the World Series in 2000 — and thus the first since Sept. 11, 2001.
I am still awash in sadness when I am near Ground Zero, but all in all, I have to say it sure was good to hear laughter and cheers in Lower Manhattan again.
Big Blue came through.
I’d rather cover a ticker-tape parade over a memorial service any day. They are just too painful.

Ah yes, for every exuberant there is a forlorner (i.e. me a life long Patriots fan). But your reference to 9/11 certainly keeps things in perspective. There are things more important in life than sports…like birding, and many other things.
