Students learn about climate change

I have an article in The Record today about 20 freshmen biology students at Passaic Valley Regional High School  who yesterday had the opportunity to videoconference with their congressman (Rep. Bill Pascrell) and two international researchers from Montclair State.

    The story is here.

One researcher had just returned from Antarctica, where
she was part of a team drilling 1,000 meters into the ground to take
core samples of the earth from various periods of history in order to
compare temperatures and look at various earlier warming trends.
The other researcher spoke briiefly about why it is vital to save the tropical rainforests.
Also discussed: Why biofuels may do more harm than good unless we
are very careful– because to create wil ultimately require the cutting
down of rainfrests and other forests for agricultural use.
This blog typically celebrates nature. By teaching students about
its importance, maybe our descendants will still have plenty of it left
to enjoy and celebrate.
