Incorporating the Celery Farm and Screech Owl Companion blogs
SONG TITLE: … Better take care
Sundown is one of my favorite times of the day at the Celery Farm (less people). and late August is one of my favorite times of the year (less heat and humidity).
So last night (a Friday, no less) was a pretty da
ng good evening to be at the CF.
Saw some good friends and very nice people on my walk to the Pirie Platform and back, and also saw some dragonflies and (in the gloaming) a kingfisher, some nighthawks and (in the distance) the little blue heron — unless I had a spilled a speck of White-Out on my binoculars).
That boomerang-esque blur on the right is a nighthawk — too fast for Jim-Bob and his camera, but at least you can tell it’s a nighthawk.
A very cool bird. This site calls it "a big bat with headlights," which is far preferable to its nasty cousin, "a big bat with head lice."
Look at the photo of the nighthawk in the link — well-lighted and in focus. Hard to believe it’s the same guy overhead.
