Snake

The Celery Farm has three kinds of snakes, and all are non-poisonous.

According to Assistant Marsh Warden Mike Limatola, there are:

     1. Northern Water Snakes with dark red, brown, and yellow bands running around the body.

     2. Eastern Garter Snakes that are dark with yellow or orange lines running head to tail.

  • I believe my water snake in my pond looks
exactly like that. I thought he was gone but yesterday I saw him peeking out from under
a water poppy. We also found a dead snake
up against our house, rotting and shredded.
We are wondering if something attacked him
or what. What hunts snakes. We have a raccoon that has been loitering all around our house at night. And of course we have red tailed hawks and coopers hawks. Have not seen the owls since they all fledged.

  • We saw that snake also on Tuesday! Quite large. Was with my son and grandson. We were thrilled to see it but the snake quickly slipped into the water!! How many butterflies on Fourth of July count???
