Seen any good stinkbugs lately?
Not just any stinkbugs, mind you, but brown marmorated stinkbugs, like the dude in the photo above.
I saw many at Hawk Mountain in eastern Pennsylvania this past week, and a hawk watch near there reported "a million" one day — though they might have gotten a bit carried away in the figurative sense.
Stinkbugs are small. They don’t bite that I know of, but they annoyingly land on you when, say, you’re trying to look through binoculars. (I hate it when that happens.)
Do they stink? I’m not sure, because my sense of smell ain’t great, and I couldn’t see putting one of these guys up to my nose — in the interests of science or not.
I am told they stink if you squish ’em, so there you go. I know I’d raise a stink if somebody tried to squish me.
I ask if you’ve seen any stinkbugs, just in case there’s a story for The Record one of these days. Before I called the experts, I thought I’d ask BB&Bers — to see if I’m on a wild stinkbug chase or not.
These bugs are prevalent in eastern Pennsylvania, they’re invasive, and they can harm plants, especially fruit.
Holler if you seen any. I’ll put it in a lineup and let the bug police take it from there.
