Red-tail meets mockingbird
If you saw The Record yesterday, you likely saw birder Doug Morel’s amazing photo on Page L-3 of a mockingbird harassing a red-tail in Paramus (left).
Doug, a friend of this blog and a tireless Celery Farm volunteer, was nice enough to share the entire sequence of ‘red-tail meets mockingbird.’ Great job!
A lot of times, a series of pictures tells the story far better than just one, and this is one of those instances.
Thanks for sharing, Doug. Here goes:

Great photos!-It must have been a lot of fun watching that take place.-Those Mockingbirds are feisty-they come after me in my yard.

Holy smokes! I saw the picture in the paper, but admittedly, (and perhaps it is because as a graphic designer I work with Photoshop) I thought the mockingbird was “retouched” closer to the hawk. Well, I was way wrong and I have to say those are some WAY COOL photos.
FYI: I have a new hawk couple in the neighborhood – I think they are sharp shinned.

Great sequence of bird-on-bird harassment photos, Jim. Especially liked seeing the gravestone!

Always love your blog Jim. Thanks for being my “foot in the door” and for displaying these pics here too.

Very nice! These moments are hard to see and even harder to capture…
One time I saw a group of crows chasing a great horned owl and nipping at its butt feathers as the owl flew away. I figured maybe the owl was trying to steal the crows’ eggs.
