Poppers

Jewelweed

One of my favorite Celery Farm plants is the jewelweed, and it is now in its prime time.

In the picture above, at the bottom, you can see three green seed pods.

The pods are a great novelty right now because they "explode" at one’s touch — spreading the seed that’s contained inside.

Believe it or not, I had never popped a popper so that I could hold on to the contents. So last evening I popped one in my hand.

The pod split in two and the weird seedling pictured below appeared in my hand.

In the photo, a pod has been placed next to it…

Meanwhile, the following site is very interesting, and if you do a search on that page for "jewelweed," you’ll be treated to a lot of neat information:

  • We called these touch-me-nots and played with them as kids. I still love the feel of the pop exploding under my fingers. I am going to run right out and touch one. Thanks for reminding me!
