Pileated!
Jeff Aughery writes: "I could not have written a better script for Sunday's birding trip to Skylands Manor in Ringwood.
"Not 1
but 2 Pileated Woodpeckers within 20 feet of me, the first ones I have
ever seen, and another first, a Bald Eagle photo."
Thanks, Jeff! Now all we need is someone to share some pix on the Campgaw Redhead. :- )

Believe it or not This male and a female were right along “The Avenue” and just past the gate where it turns into Nursery Road. (OK so I grabbed their walking tour guide so I know where I was).
To get to where I saw them, Park in Lot A (Just to the left after you enter) And walk down the main road past the Carriage House (The Avenue) Just after the gate that marks the start of Nursery Road, on the right. The trees there are pretty well drilled so I am sure they are frequent visitors.
From there I walked back towards the Carriage House on the grass going behind the Shrub Border and the male hopped from tree to tree in the Shrub Border for 20 minutes.
It was from 9:40 AM to 10 AM that I saw them, with the sun coming from behind me There was a lot of very good light. -
What a great shot of that Pileated! I’ve yet to get a photo of one of them, I think I know where I’m going next chance I get. What a gorgeous bird!
