Paper vs. plastic

The Record has a front-page story of mine today about a proposed New Jersey ban on plastic grocery bags.

The story started out on Monday afternoon as a quick small article and just kept getting bigger.

The paper vs. plastic debate is extremely complicated — in the end, the best way to go seems to be to bring your own reusable bags to the store.

Very interesting. I know a lot of people who are (non-marijuana) hemp fans.

  • Great well written balanced article. I read a similar article (though not as informative as yours) a few years ago on motherearthnews. Their conclusion was similar though they thought plastic was better because plastic is a byproduct of oil which will be drilled for whether we use plastic or not.
Canvas bags are nice but it would be even better if we could get cheap hemp bags. Hemp is much less destructive to the environment than cotton and I hope to see it grown for fabrics someday.

  • Hey! I like using plastic bags b/c that’s less plastic bags I need to BUY. I reuse all my grocery store plastic bags as trash bags and other uses. I also have a cloth grocery bag but I still need plastic bags.

  • AMEN!
