OWL: Update
All is fine at 1 Owlbox Lane. The egg count has been five for more than a week, and in all likelihood it will stay there.
Mrs. Ace is incubating the eggs with great dedication, and Ace is a terrific provider.
The voting on naming Mrs. Ace has been brisk. It closes tomorrow (Wednesday) at 8 a.m.
I hope to put together a video of Ace bringing home some goodies in the next week.
On rainy nights, think worms.

Just took this one of the father owl standing guard. Maybe the eggs have hatched. I wish I could see more.

ps, you will have to scroll down to see the baby owl. It reverts to my first photograph.

Jim, the father owl is back this morning standing guard behind the mother owls house.
All is right in the owl kingdom.
Here was my most favorite photo of the baby owl. He looks so sad and wistful here. I can’t wait to watch this amazing story unfold again. It never gets old.

ps, we put out no seeds over in the yard next to ours where the owl house is. We only put out sunflower seed in our yard. The raccoon of course comes to our yard to rob the seed.

Thank you so much for mentioning that.
We have seen a raccoon in our yard at night.
We are considering putting a metal band halfway up the pine tree. Wide enough to keep the squirrels away. We have never really had anything rob the nest. Other than some over curious squirrels. -
Thanks for the update. You are ahead of up north by roughly two weeks. I see almost no activity at the owl box — if it weren’t for the camera, I’d have no idea what was going on inside — or that there was an owl sitting on five eggs.

Hi Jim, I was worried about my owls as things go so quiet. But I counted from the day she started staying in the house and it has not been 26 days yet. I figure hatching
will be around April 11th. But I have no idea really. I first saw the owls mating ritual
around March 13th. But she did not start sitting until later. I guessed at March 16 or 17. I should mark it on a calendar next year. At first the male stayed right next to her house for two weeks. Now he has disappeared. But that happened last year also. Since then I have seen her once with head sticking out of house and once at the bird bath at dusk. Otherwise you would not even know anyone was in the house. I never see owl pellets outside. It is strange.
