OWL: Second home
When a crew cleaned out the wood-duck boxes on Lake Appert this winter, they found this screech owl scrunched down in a remote nesting box.
The guess here is that it was Ace, who had not been staying in my nesting box for quite a while.
When Ace did return to my box, we went to the duck box, and it was empty of owls.
We threw out the rotten duck eggs that Ace had been sleeping on and readied it for the new season.
Ace disappeared from my box shortly after, but he could not be found in the duck box either.
He clearly had a third pad to crash at.

Wow. Amazing. They managed to open the box and take a picture of the owl without waking it. It must have been nice to know Ace was nearby and safe.
