Mystery mass?

   Frog_spawn

Saw this earlier today at the Celery Farm, just as I made the turn for the Warden’s Watch, not far from the large northern water snake.

Conjecture was that it was frog spawn.  Size is a little smaller than a cauliflower, which it is not.

    Any thoughts?

Also on view, a dragonfly (ID, anyone, or is it impossible?) and the snake itself, which had a healed wound  (see photo below; click hyper text).

  • Sure looks like frog eggs to me. Now you’re going to have A LOT of babies to count! As for the dragonfly, I’ve got to get me over to Lorrimer and pick up a dragonfly ID book. Anything past a white tail has me stumped. Great shot! In fact I photographed a couple myself this week and haven’t a clue.

  • Glad the snake has been identified and is on the mend. I’ve seen a mass like that on the pond at my lake. Never could figure it out.
