My Latest ‘Bird Watcher’ Column: Piermont Pier

Kingfisher jw
My latest column for The Record and Herald-News is about birding on the Piermont Pier.

Here's a taste: "For bird-watchers accustomed to seeing the Hudson from two popular hawk watches high above the river — State Line in Alpine and Hook Mountain Hawk Watch in Upper Nyack, the Piermont Pier provides an incredible water’s-edge view of this powerful river. I even saw a cool skinny fish called a needlefish while I was there.

"My walk on the pier was a nice reminder that to enjoy birding, you don’t necessarily have to see a new species for the year, or even get great looks at an old favorite. New places and new perspectives always invigorate — especially on a beautiful autumn day."
