Monday Morning Mystery: Wawayanda Pt. 2

IMG_1934 2
Recently paddled to our favorite island on Lake Wawayanda. Used the iNaturalist app to help identify a plant and a critter.

Can you I.D. them?

  • Agree with Sassafras. Since the frog’s spots are squarish and arranged in parallel rows, I think it is a Pickerel Frog. A Leopard Frog’s spots are supposed to be roundish and randomly arranged, according to one reference I found on the internet. And apparently these similar-looking species can also be distinguished by their croaks and underbellies.

Looks like a leopard frog and a sassafras leaf.
