Monday Morning Mystery 040813
Someone unnamed made us walk a long way to ID this plant, so we are making it a Monday Morning Mystery. :- )

OOPS! I messed up that last post. Anyway, I could be wrong, but I am sticking with Mayapple.

Yes, my initial thought also went to skunk cabbage, but Jim’s post said he took a long walk to ID this plant. Skunk cabbage plants are close by in the Celery Farm. Maybe Jim’s comment was tongue in cheek. Then I was duped. However when I look at the picture, the ground surrounding the sprout doesn’t look particularly swampy. I am thinking more like a rich, leaf littered woodland floor. I could be wrong, but I am still sticking with Mayapple.

Perhaps it could be a Mayapple. Botanical name is podophyllum peltatum.
