Palm Desert a
A reader of my "Bird Watcher" column in The Record writes the following:

"I took a picture of the attached bird while on vacation in Palm Springs in 2007.  I’m thinking it’s a Western Peewee. However, a more experienced birder suggested that it’s an Ash-throated Flycatcher.  Of course, there’s a possibility we’re both wrong.  What do you think?"

I told him I'd post it on the blog… What do you think?

  • Obviously a Myiarchus with that complex wing pattern, puffy crown, and bright-edged secondaries. Very short bill, pale neck sides, bland underparts: presumably Ash-throated Flycatcher, though Nutting’s can’t be ruled out.
