DSCN9983This is a very rare Eastern Bluebird Nesting Box. Can anyone guess why?  Answer on Wednesday.

  • I think because it made of metal ?
    • A bluebird box should not have a perch. Predatory House Sparrows and House
    Wrens are attracted to perches.

  • I’m going to guess the material it’s made out of is no longer available and/or very hard to come by or perhaps the style and/or method used to construct it is no longer being practiced. I know they still have the wing nuts available LOL

    It is on the ground?

  • Because it was originally made to be something else? It started out as something else? It looks like the top could have been from maybe an olden type fishing box. My father had an old box like that.

  • It was built by Stiles Thomas – maybe in the 1930’s?
