This is what I can add to these two WONDERFUL pieces of art: Both artists were commissioned for murals at Secaucus Junction Transfer Station – the theme being, The Four Corners of New Jersey. Larko chose the railroads (that come together in Secaucus?). Mac Adams did 2 pieces -one winter, the other summer. This one is called, Frozen Wetlands With Trees. Check NEC Secaucus Transit Station-Transit Arts-ArcGIS online.
Reminds me of the years when we were kids and used to take the trains and buses into NY City through the Meadowlands. -
I *also* initially thought that about the stumps!
As for the other paw, I *also* initially thought it was the Hackensack Meadowlands, although I didn’t have a specific locale in mind. I mean, since the artwork is hung at Secaucus Junction, it seemed totally reasonable that it was of Secaucus locales. But since Larko’s painting is titled “Brielle”, I went with that.
So I went and investigated using the vehicle for one of my favorite indoor hobbies.
Take a look at this and see what you think. 🙂

(Adams’ pair of mosaics is referred to simply as “Wetlands”, apparently, so it could still perhaps be MCM. The other one is full of water lilies, so I’m not as sure about that one.) -
Tell us something we don’t know. 🙂
(Well done, My gut said that the top mural was of the cedar stumps at Mill Creek, but I think you’re right. On the other paw, I think the one with the bridge is of the Saw Mill Creek WMA. I think I recognize the landfill in the background. -
I’m sorry, you’re right. I slacked.
Mac Adams is a Welsh artist and he’s about 80 years old. The mural is part of a pair at SJ, made in 2003, and they are each 30’x6′, and made of glass.
Larko is about 64 and grew up in Parsippany. Her painting was commissioned in 2000, but I think completed in 2003? It’s one of four of her works displayed at SJ, and it measures 5’5″ by 27’6″.
Both of these are easily viewed when you are stuck waiting a long time for a late-night train home after seeing concerts in Brooklyn. They are also both within reasonable walking distance of Laurel Hill if you are looking for birds. -
Sorry, but could you be a little more specific?

These pieces are hanging in Secaucus Junction. The top mural is by artist Mac Adams and is a winter landscape… may be titled, “Winter After the Fire,” or something like that. The bottom one is oil on linen by artist Valeri Larko and is of a railway bridge in Brielle.
