The Big Dead-Fish Clean-Up
A huge thank you to the volunteers who pitched in yesterday to remove all those dead fish from the Celery…
In the past two weeks, I posted two insect-related Monday mysteries.
The first, above, asked what I photographed in my backyard next to the Celery Farm last month.
The answer, given correctly by Ginny, is that it is a Cicada's exoskeleton — left in this case on an New York Ironweed stem. More about Cicadas' exoskeletons here. (Nice going, Ginny!)
The second mystery, below, asked readers to I.D. this dragonfly. I'll have to go with Joe Lafferty's identification:
"Most likely White-faced Meadowhawk. Easily confused with Cherry-faced and Ruby Meadowhawks."
More on White-faced Meadowhawks here. (Thanks, Joe!)
