May 3 update: Still waiting

   Mrs_ace_0502_pm

I am beginning to think that the screech-cam is a curse as well as a blessing.

Mrs. Ace has been sitting on one of her four eggs for more than 31 days now, beyond what I have read is the normal incubation period.

That makes me a little uneasy.

Then again, if I didn’t have a camera in the box, I wouldn’t know that Mrs. Ace has been on at least one egg so long.

And I wouldn’t be checking in using the camera monitor so often. Out of sight, out of mind, as they say.

But no miniature video camera inside the nestng box, no photograph like the one at the top of this post — taken late yesterday afternoon.

One of my owl expert friends predicted that a lot of what I saw would confuse and surprise me, and he is right.

I am a bit concerned about the situation, but because of the screech-cam, I also know that Mrs. Ace is still in there, sitting on four eggs, and getting fed fairly regularly by Mr. Ace.

I am sure there is a simple explanation for all this. I just don’t know what it is.

For Mrs. Ace junkies, here is a short video of her grooming:

  • Hi Jim,
I, too, am also anxiously waiting the new arrivals!
I (who never looked at a blog in her life) am seriously thinking about joining the nearest “Blogs Anonymous” meeting. Do you have any idea where I might find one? Seriously, I check your blog every time I get on my computer. I am really enjoying all of it!
Hope to see you at the Celery Farm!
Good birding (That is not hard these days!)
    Thanks,
    Carol Dickman
