Inviting All to the Celery Farm

After seeing someone suggest that Allendalers take a walk in the Celery Farm on a local Facebook page, I thought I'd post something on that page to familiarize folks with the nature preserve:

THE CELERY FARM WELCOMES YOU

If you need a place to go to get some fresh air and experience nature, consider the Celery Farm Natural Area, located on the east side of Franklin Turnpike north of Cottage Place.

If you haven’t visited yet, here are a few tips to make your trip more enjoyable (and safer).

Please look at a trail map to get the lay of the land. Although the paths are flat and essentially make a one-mile loop around the lake, you can get lost on a side trail if you don’t pay attention.

You can download a map here: http://fykenature.org/cfmap.html

Keep a safe distance from others.

Our local Boy Scouts have put in numbered trail markers so folks can figure out where they are if they get lost.

As with almost all natural areas, no pets are allowed. Please leave them at home.

Please stay on the trails. Otherwise, ticks and poison ivy await.

If you are trying to learn more about birds (and identify them), just ask anyone with binoculars. Most birders are happy to help newbies.

Please do not feed the ducks and geese (or any other critters). They are wild creatures and have plenty to eat already.

Please do not park on the sidewalk. It is against state law, and it blocks pedestrians.

Questions? Please ask.

Have a great walk!
