INJURED HAWK: Update

Just a reminder that the injured red-shouldered hawk will be released at the Celery Farm’s Greenway field on Saturday at noon. According to a recent e-mail from Fyke President Carol Flanagan, the hawk’s name is Laura, after the woman who found her.
Red-shouldered hawks are threatened species in New Jersey and "endangered" when nesting — as this one was.
Although the hawk’s release is cause for celebration, please try to be quiet if you attend the release tomorrow. The hawk is stressed enough already.
Last year, a similar incident occurred farther in
The_injured_hawk_2to the breeding season, and the hawk (pictured here)
did not survive even though it, too, was taken to the Raptor Trust.
The intrigue this year will what will happen when the female returns to the breeding ground now that the male has found a new mate.
