Here’s to a great weekend
We are on the cusp of the Memorial Day Weekend, and before we are hurled headlong into the promising summer of 2007, I would just like to pause a moment and count a few blessings.
Although the weather in recent days has been spectacular, the spring has had its share of rough patches — from the April 15-16 deluge to the storm of May 16, which knocked out power for 32 hours in these parts.
I have heard reports of wood duck nesting boxes being abandoned elsewhere, but as of this evening, a female wood duck still appeared to be nesting in our backyard.
And for the third spring in a row, we have had screech owls in the nesting box.
This year is the first year we still have screech owls around as of May 25 — and four wondrous owlets for good measure. Every day from here on in is a bonus.
All four seem healthy, and Big Boy –that’s what my wife Patty calls the biggest of the brood — is even trying to flex his wings.
Tempus fugit.
In two weeks, the screech owl box will go empty, and things just won’t quite be the same.
And that’s why I know I need to savor each and every day ahead.
Herewith, for your viewing pleasure, I give you the Fab Four:
